Explore the History of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Over thirty years ago, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) created the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) to meet the growing care needs for neonates and infants during emergencies. Therefore, NRP was created to close the care gap for newborns that doctors, pediatricians, and other medical providers, had been reporting during the late 1970s and 80s.

To build the NRP program, several medical organizations and physicians came together to form training materials guiding the critical care of newborns and neonates. Over the years, these modules expanded and improved, becoming what medical providers call NRP today. The first official NRP training was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1987.

Presently, many emergency medical certification training centers offer training programs inspired by the AAP’s NRP curriculum. That is important because the more organizations that offer training inspired by NRP, the more healthcare providers can learn the latest critical care to save neonates and infants during emergencies.

We offer a 100% online NRP training alternative

A 100% online certification is just as effective as in-person training. In fact, being 100% online offers significant advantages. Our curriculum is available 24/7, allowing you to take your time learning life-saving care without feeling rushed. View our courses from all digital devices, including a computer, digital tablet, or phone.

Is your certification the same as the AAP's NRP?

No, our curriculum is inspired by the AAP's NRP certification. That said, our certifications and recertifications are accepted by over 90% of healthcare institutions. Our mission is to provide life-saving education to as many medical providers as possible instead of limiting access to a single program. Though our training is not officially called NRP, you’ll learn life-saving care in our similar program.

If you are concerned with your employer accepting our program, we suggest first checking with your employer to see if you are allowed to take a 100% online training.
